TUFTS UNIVERSITY AWARDS www.vrg.org TOP HONORS

1) The Tufts University Nutrition Navigator awarded www.vrg.org the highest possible rating, "Among The Best!" The Tufts University Nutrition Navigator is "the first online rating guide that evaluates nutrition web sites based on accuracy, depth, and usefulness of information." The criteria for review were developed by a prestigious advisory board of U.S. and Canadian nutrition experts. Tufts University is very well respected for its nutrition programs. While web sites do not have their own "Oscars," this is as close as they come.

The award is especially noteworthy because www.vrg.org equaled or beat many well known and heavily financed web sites, yet we created it on a shoestring with volunteers using the same accurate and nutritionally sound articles found in the Vegetarian Journal. On the Tufts site, The Vegetarian Resource Group is listed as a top resource for health professionals, just above The American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Association, and The American Dietetic Association. Thanks goes to our online volunteers, including Jeanie Freeman, Stephanie Schueler, Bobbi Pasternak, Robert Lewis, and Brad Scott, plus Dar Veverka who answers the bulletin board questions and numerous emails, and of course everyone who contributes articles to the Vegetarian Journal.

Tufts gave www.vrg.org a score of 24 out of a possible 25, including a 7 out of 7 for Depth of Information and a 5 out of 5 for User Experience. They wrote "This is a substantive, well-organized, and balanced site which appears able to promote and explain vegetarianism without appearing strident or overly political. Easy to read and navigate, it provides news, recipes, nutrition information, links, and ideas for those interested in becoming or remaining vegetarians." You can read Tufts complete review of www.vrg.org at http://navigator.tufts.edu/profess/vegetari.html.

We are very proud of this award which recognizes the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the materials VRG produces online.

ASSOCIATED PRESS ARTICLE ON VRG

2) Dale Hopper, a writer for the Associated Press interviewed Debra Wasserman, co-director of The Vegetarian Resource Group. The resulting article appeared in newspapers throughout the country in February and continues to appear in newspapers during March. Dale wrote about both Debra and VRG, highlighting accomplishments which included her "half-dozen cookbooks," helping "the National Meals on Wheels Foundation put together a vegetarian meal option," and "working with six regional supermarket chains to produce materials on vegetarianism." The story also reports that VRG books have now sold over 250,000 copies. The article presented both VRG and vegetarianism in a very positive light.
