VRG EXHIBITS AT NATURAL PRODUCTS EXPO WEST

1) Co-Directors Debra Wasserman and Charles Stahler staffed The
Vegetarian Resource Group booth at the Natural Products Expo West in
San Diego, California from March 6th through the 8th. As always, our
booth was very busy with people continuously interested in learning
more about vegetarianism. Debra also gathered new product literature for
reviews in upcoming issues of the Vegetarian Journal.

WWW.VRG.ORG FEEDBACK AND SEARCH NOW LIVE

2) Have you visited the VRG web site lately at www.vrg.org? The
Feedback and Search Pages are now available. You can use the feedback
page to make announcements, ask questions, or share your thoughts on
vegetarianism. What makes it unique? You can also include HTML tags to
bold, italicize, or underline text, and you can add anchor tags such
as <A HREF="http://www.vrg.org/feedback/about.htm">About</A>. Go ahead and
try it out!

The Search page allows you to search for
keywords in articles throughout the site. You can use this to find
all the references to iron (for instance), or to find all the recipes
that include chocolate.

JANUARY/FEBRUARY VEGETARIAN JOURNAL EXCERPTS NOW ONLINE

3) Excerpts from the January/February issue of the Vegetarian Journal
are now available on the web site at www.vrg.org/journal/vj97jan. Two items
of particular interest are the sections from the bonus insert on Raising
Vegetarian Children (including "Vegan Pregnancy") and "Veggie Viewpoint:
Eating at College." Even if you're not a college student, it is interesting
to read what some college students really eat. Thanks to volunteers Brad
Scott and Jeanie Freeman for converting these articles to HTML.

VEGETARIAN NUTRITION CONGRESS

4) The Vegetarian Resource Group will be handing out literature at the
Vegetarian Nutrition Congress being held in Loma Linda, CA March 24th
through 26th. VRG nutrition advisor Suzanne Havala, M.S., R.D. will
be attending this meeting. If you attend, be sure to introduce yourself to
her.

JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY SPRING FAIR & TOWSON SPRING FAIR

5) The Vegetarian Resource Group will be having a booth for the 15th
consecutive year at the annual Johns Hopkins University Spring Fair in
Baltimore, MD April 11th through 13th. Volunteers are needed to staff the booth. If you live in the Baltimore area and are interested in helping, call (410) 366-8343. We will also be having a booth May 4th at the annual Towson Spring Fair. Call if you can help at this event, too.

VRG RESTAURANT GATHERINGS IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND SAN DIEGO

6) The Vegetarian Resource Group held a restaurant gathering in South
Florida on February 22, 1997. Debra Wasserman, Charles Stahler, and
Brad Scott greeted both long-term residents and a few other snowbirds.
Everyone had a great time. VRG also held a restaurant gathering in San
Diego, California on March 9, 1997. It was a good chance for Debra
Wasserman and Charles Stahler to converse at length with VRG members.

ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST

7) The 1997 Vegetarian Resource Group Essay Contest is open for
entries. Age categories are 14-18, 9-13, and age 8 and under. The
winner in each category receives a $50 savings bond. Entries must be
postmarked by May 1, 1997. For details and examples of past winners,
see <www.vrg.org/essay>. You can ask teachers to make the
contest a classroom exercise with both vegetarians and non-
vegetarians participating. It encourages kids to think about
vegetarianism, whether or not they currently are vegetarian.

8) This month's recipe appears in "Simply Vegan" by Debra Wasserman with
nutrition section by Reed Mangels, Ph.D., R.D. For more information about
